Denis Pat Brady

 DENIS J. BRADY, lovingly known as “Denis Pat”, age 82 of Wayne New Jersey, formerly of The Bronx, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010. His passing was peaceful, although sudden and unexpected, while at home with his loving family. He was born in Bronx, New York to John and Anna Brady who had immigrated to America from Ireland and Scotland. They settled in Bronx, New York in Saints Peter & Paul Parish. He was especially proud of his Irish heritage. Denis spent his youth in the Bronx and especially enjoyed going to Gleason’s Gym where he not only learned the art of boxing but excelled at it. He won a Golden Glove Boxing Title and is listed in both the New York and New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fames. Among his fans he was called the “Iron Chin”. He was a tough and ready guy if a crisis should ever present itself. Denis also took great pride in his professional career as a member of Local #1 Elevator Construction Workers Union where along side his beloved brother John they helped construct many of the elevator systems in many of the New York City's most famous buildings. He was gifted with an outgoing friendly personality that was likeable. Denis would often be protective of those around him ready to defend them at all costs. Denis was known for his generosity and was always willing to lend a helping hand by sharing his time. The most important dedication in his life was his family including his children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and all his brother's and sister's. He was also a talented self taught artist and could make sketches of people and items with wonderful detail in design. Denis also enjoyed cooking, card playing and checkers, the horses, playing pool and bowling. He would jog from the Bronx to Englewood to visit his daughter and grandchildren. Denis took pride in being in good shape. Denis is predeceased by is loving sisters Catherine Apollo & Theresa Apollo and his brother John. Surviving are one daughter Christine Harrison of Wayne; one son Denis Brady Jr. of Bronx, New York; one sister Agnes Gillen of New York City; two brothers Pat Brady and his wife Harriet of Merrick, Long Island and Jim Brady and his wife Carmella of Wappingers Falls, New York; two grandchildren Jennifer Curcio and Peggy Amato; five great grandchildren Christopher and Ryan Curcio, McKenzie Johnson, Gianna and Kaitlyn Amato. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday, August 9, 2010 from 2-4, 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne. Interment will be in Redeemer Cemetery, 90 Chapel Road, Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the First Reformed Church of Fort Lee, 2420 Lemoine Ave. Fort Lee, NJ 07024 would be appreciated.

Dennis Pat Brady (From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia) Dennis Pat Brady (born January 18, 1928) was a lightweight professional boxer from Connecticut. Personal Life: Brady, a resident of [Bronx, New York], was born in New York, New York. Professional Career: Brady made his professional debut against Eddie Reardon on June 20, 1944. His first fight ended with a 5th round knockout win. From there it was off to the races, as Brady won his first 16 fights before suffering a draw against Nick Stato. Brady avenged that draw against Stato in his very next fight, and by January 1946 was sporting a dazzling 24-0-1 record. It was on the 29th of that month that Brady lost for the first time, an 8 round points loss to Victor Flores. As his career unfolded Brady faced such competition as Spider Armstrong, Sal Bartolo, Miguel Acevedo, Jackie Weber, Redtop Davis, Sandy Saddler, Iggy Vaccari, and Paddy DeMarco. By the time of his retirement in March 1956, Brady had compiled a professional record of 79 wins (35 by knockout), 25 losses, and 6 draws.
