John J & Marilyn Sliasky Strano


John Strano Major USAF (Ret.)  

On Tuesday, September 15, 2015 of Alexandria, VA passed away suddenly in his home. John was born and raised in Bronx, NY on Elton Avenue and graduated from SS Peter & Paul Elementary School, Cardinal Hayes High School and Manhattan College prior to receiving his commission into the United States Air Force in 1964. He was awarded a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University and retired as a Major from the United States Air Force after 22 Honorable years in 1985.

As Human Resources Director for Marriott International and Loews Hotels, John made several lifelong friends and his deep faith in God led him to live life with a degree of integrity and moral character that left a lasting impression on those who came to know him. An avid boater and outdoorsman, he enjoyed taking family and friends on the "Other Marilyn", often times outracing thunderstorms on the return trip.

He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn "Pinky" Strano; loving father of Jeff Strano (Melissa) and Pauline Dahlin (Troy); adored grandfather of Madison, Aubrey, Mitchell and Angelina.

Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr. Alexandria, VA on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 6222 Franconia Rd. Alexandria, VA on Saturday at 11 AM. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 3 PM. Marilyn (Pinky) Sliasky Strano

On Friday, March 18th, 2016 Marilyn Strano of Alexandria, VA passed away unexpectedly due to health complications. Marilyn was born and raised in Bronx, NY, one of three daughters of George and Charlotte Sliasky. Marilyn graduated from Cathedral High School in June 1958. She later married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, John Strano, in December, 1964. Together with him for 51 cherished years, she was always by his side, even on the boat that took on her namesake.

A caring and softhearted mother, Marilyn was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, marking her cookbooks with the dates for every recipe she made. Her faith in God and undying love for her family led her to live life filled with kindness, generosity, and devotion. Her charismatic smile and truly kind heart left a lasting impression on those who came to know her.

It seemed fitting that she came to work at the Air Force Chief of Chaplin's office for 12 years as an Executive Assistant. She continued in that role at the Hay Addams Hotel and Swissotel Watergate where Marilyn made many lifelong friends.She is preceded in death by her loving husband John J. Strano and is survived by her son, Jeff Strano (Melissa) and daughter, Pauline Dahlin (Troy); adored grandmother of Madison, Aubrey, Mitchell and Angelina; sister Valerie Hachey.

Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr. Alexandria, VA on Saturday, March 26th, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 there will be a viewing prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 6222 Franconia Rd. Alexandria, VA at 11:30 AM. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery or Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 10 AM.
